Pay per Click Campaign Management

How it works

An advert is created and various search terms are associated with it. When someone uses a search engine or other service to find websites containing those terms, your advert is presented to them alongside the standard search engine results. (Google shows its pay per click adverts on the right hand side of the page with "Sponsored Links" written above them.) You only pay if someone actually clicks the advert and visits your website.

How much does it cost?

You'll usually find that other companies are trying to attract the same traffic as you so they'll be targeting the same search terms. To manage this, pay per click systems use a bidding system where the highest bidder appears first followed by the other companies in order of bid amount.

However, even on a tight budget, pay per click is an effective way to attract traffic. In Google Adwords, your position in the listings depends on past performance as well as just the amount of money you're willing to bid. If your campaign is managed well, you will attract a higher click-through rate (a larger percentage of those who see your advert will click on it). The higher the click-through rate you have, the higher you'll appear on future listings - without bidding any higher.
